Former President Bill Clinton has been "cooperative" and was "answering all of our questions" during his deposition in the House probe of deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., told reporters Friday.
Luna, a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, briefly stepped out of the closed-door session to provide an update as Clinton's testimony continued. The lawmaker's remarks were shown live on Newsmax.
"As of right now, [he is] cooperative and answering all of our questions," Luna said, adding that the deposition is helping lawmakers get "a little bit more of a clearer picture."
While declining to discuss specific details of Clinton's testimony, Luna said she believes that if the investigation sheds its "partisan nature," Congress could deliver justice for victims of Epstein's sex-trafficking operation.
Epstein, who died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, had deep ties to powerful figures in politics, business, and academia.
His longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, is serving a 20-year prison sentence for helping recruit and groom underage girls.
Luna also called out four Epstein associates — Lesley Groff, Sarah Kellen, Nadia Marcinkova, and Adriana Ross — alleging they engaged in trafficking minors but received plea deals.
"All of these women engaged in the trafficking of minors as adults," Luna said. "In my opinion, they are not to be given victim status because they did partake in harming young girls."
She added that some of the victims were "as young as 10, 11 years old."
Luna said she will urge the Oversight Committee to bring those individuals in for questioning and review the circumstances under which they were granted plea agreements.
At the same time, she warned against what she described as partisan smear efforts.
"If there is a request to bring in an individual who has made false allegations against President Clinton, I will be voting that down in committee — just as I will be voting down any individuals that have made false claims against President [Donald] Trump," Luna said.
She also suggested that Epstein's operation bore "telltale signs of an intelligence gathering operation," potentially involving foreign interests targeting high-profile leaders.
"Our focus is bringing justice to the victims," Luna said. "There is no justice when traffickers are given plea deals."
