Billionaire Miriam Adelson Planning $100M Trump Boost

Billionaire Dr. Miriam Adelson is planning to spend $100 million in support of Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump's presidential bid, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

The financial backing would make Adelson, 78, one of the biggest donors in November's presidential election, according to the report. Adelson and her late husband, Republican power broker Sheldon Adelson, gave $90 million in support of Trump in 2020.

Sheldon Adelson died Jan. 11, 2021, leaving Dr. Adelson, one of the richest women in the world, pulling the strings on political donations for the first time.

"I'm pretty sure that her North Star going forward is going to be what she thinks Sheldon would have done if he were still alive," former ambassador to Israel under Trump David M. Friedman told the Times in its lengthy feature on Adelson.

She is described by the Times as "pro-Israel and rabidly partisan."

Adelson is a former officer in the Israeli Defense Forces who spends most of her time at her longtime home in Israel, where she was born.

In Trump's first administration, the Adelsons pushed for the U.S. embassy in Israel to be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which he did. Adelson does not have a specific wish list for Trump this time around, according to the report.

Adelson has had the super PAC Preserve America revived as her vehicle to support Trump, with $10 million donated so far, according to the Times. Dr. Adelson tapped Republican strategist Dave Carney to lead the super PAC, which is expected to attract other major GOP donors, according to the report. Carney is said to be planning a $100 million spend in three to four to-be-determined states.

"Up until recently, there's been 100 percent spending from the Biden side and 0 percent from the Trump side," Carney told the Times. "We will definitely be heard. They will probably spend more money, because they already have a huge head start. But we're starting the game tied."
