FDA Heightens Importance of Butter Recall

The Food and Drug Administration has increased the risk level associated with a recent butter recall.

The risk classification for nearly 65,000 pounds of butter produced by Bunge North America, based in Chesterfield, Missouri, is at Class II. That's the FDA's second-highest warning.

The recall was originally issued in mid-July over a labeling issue that didn't specify the potential of milk products being used in production.

It's a voluntary recall, meaning it was initiated by the company, not the government.

The butter was sent out in 36-pound cases to a dozen unspecified distribution points across the U.S. and one distribution center in the Dominican Republic.

The lot code number for the butter is 5064036503.

NewsNation reported that a Class II recall involves "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences."
