CBS/YouGov Poll: Trump's Approval Rating Up 2 Points From July

By    |   Monday, 08 September 2025 04:38 PM EDT

President Donald Trump's approval rating rose 2 percentage points, buoyed by a slight boost from independent and moderate voters, according to the most recent CBS News/YouGov poll.

Released on Sunday, the survey found that 44% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing, up from the 42% who said the same thing in July.

The increase in support marked the end of a monthslong slide in the president's second-term approval rating. In February, shortly after Trump took office, his approval rating stood at 53%, but fell to 45% by June.

Self-identified moderate voters helped drive the bump in support, with the latest poll showing 36% of them like Trump's job performance versus 34% in July's poll.

At 5% and 86%, respectively, levels of support among self-identified liberal and conservative voters didn't change from July.

When broken down by party affiliation, the survey found similar trends.

Support among independents ticked up from 32% in July to 37% in September, while Republicans' support went up 2 points to hit 91% in September. Meanwhile, Democrats' support fell 1 point to 4%, according to the survey.

"Immigration, deportation, and border policies" are the most important when determining "how you judge the Trump administration," according to 30% of respondents, while 25% said the "economy and inflation prices" are primary factors. An additional 17% said "government agencies, programs and spending" should be the main gauge of the administration's success.

The poll of 2,385 American adults was conducted Sept. 3-5. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
