By    |   Wednesday, 10 September 2025 06:49 PM EDT

Turning Point USA has posted an official statement following the assassination of their founder and CEO Charlie Kirk.

"It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Charles James Kirk has been murdered by a gunshot that took place during Turning Point USA’s 'The American Comeback Tour' campus event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. May he be received into the merciful arms of our loving Savior, who suffered and died for Charlie. We asked that everyone keep his family and loved ones in your prayers.  We ask that you please respect their privacy and dignity at this time," the organization posted.

Kirk, 31, was shot at approximately 12:10 p.m. local time during a question and answer session. He was immediately removed from the location and taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. One man was initially taken into custody following the shooting, but according to Utah Valley University spokeswoman Ellen Treanor he has since been released. The campus has been placed on lockdown.

Turning Point USA was founded in 2012 by Kirk and seeks to influence young people by promoting conservative principles on high school and college campuses.
