The FBI has released hundreds of documents relating to the infamous 1971 jet hijacker "DB Cooper."
His true identity remains a mystery. The files provide a historical review of the FBI investigation into the storied hijacking but do not show a clearer picture of the hijacker's potential identity.
The FBI archives detail the intensive search to find the hijacker who put on a parachute and jumped with a reported $200,000 ransom payment from a Boeing jet on Nov. 24, 1971. He was never captured or positively identified.
The name the hijacker used was "Dan Cooper." That turned into "DB Cooper," and has stayed that way since.
Popular Mechanics has followed the case and reported the new release of FBI files provides information on a long list of potential suspects who were interviewed by government investigators. All dead ends.
PM said the FBI officially closed its failed investigation in 2016 but private investigators have kept up the search.
Even a parachute claimed to have been the one "Cooper" used came to light but has not been directly connected to the case.
