President Donald Trump has appointed Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino to head the White House Presidential Personnel Office, Trump posted on Truth Social early on Sunday.
Scavino replaces Sergio Gor, the new U.S. ambassador to India.
Scavino, 49, is one of Trump’s most loyal advisers and among the few to serve continuously through his business, campaign, and government operations. His new role gives him broad influence over communications and personnel decisions inside the West Wing.
Daniel Joseph Scavino Jr. was born Jan. 14, 1976, in Yorktown, New York. He graduated from Yorktown High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 1998.
While in high school, Scavino worked as a caddie at Briar Hall Country Club, a Westchester property later purchased by Trump and renamed Trump National Golf Club. That early connection would shape the course of his career.
Before joining Trump full time, Scavino worked for The Coca-Cola Co. and the pharmaceutical firm Galderma. He later became general manager of Trump National Golf Club Westchester, overseeing daily operations and development projects.
Scavino entered national politics in 2015, joining Trump’s first presidential campaign as director of social media. He quickly became one of Trump’s most visible digital voices, helping craft and manage the president’s online presence throughout the 2016 campaign and into the White House.
Following Trump’s 2016 victory, Scavino was appointed White House director of social media, a new position responsible for the administration’s online messaging. He later served as senior adviser for digital strategy and, in 2020, was elevated to deputy chief of staff for communications.
In 2024, Trump announced Scavino would return as deputy chief of staff in the new administration. He assumed the post on Jan. 20, 2025, under Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
In August 2025, Scavino was also tapped to lead the White House Presidential Personnel Office, which oversees political appointments across federal agencies. The move further cemented his influence as a key player in Trump’s inner circle.
Scavino is viewed as one of Trump’s most trusted aides, known for his discretion and skill in digital communication. Critics have questioned his role in spreading partisan messaging, while supporters see him as a disciplined and effective communicator who understands Trump’s style and audience.
