The FBI and the Department of Justice are working to review sensitive documents from the bureau’s investigation of Jeffrey Epstein so more files can be publicly released, ABC News reported.
Attorney General Pam Bondi wants the FBI and her department to release more files amid continued pressure from supporters of President Donald Trump, ABC News said, citing multiple sources.
A thousand FBI agents have been assigned to the task, according to ABC News.
Bondi has faced backlash after her initial release of Epstein case files contained few details. Bondi urged FBI Director Kash Patel to do more to release classified information from the case, ABC News said.
The Justice Department's national security division is devoting many of its resources to the effort, even though some officials believe there are no new revelations to be found in the files.
"Under Attorney General Bondi's leadership, the Department of Justice is working relentlessly to deliver unprecedented transparency for the American people,” a DOJ spokesperson told ABC News.
"Director Patel is committed to full transparency and justice, swiftly delivering documents to the DOJ," FBI spokesperson Ben Williamson told ABC News in a statement. "He has complete faith in Attorney General Pam Bondi's leadership and dedication to holding the powerful accountable."
Footage that could be released includes video evidence from a sex-trafficking investigation into Epstein and a three-page “evidence list” the Justice Department compiled on the New York financier, ABC News reported.
Epstein killed himself in a New York City jail cell in 2019 while he was facing federal charges related to sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York.
