Trump Implores Republicans to Unite Behind Bill

By    |   Friday, 16 May 2025 01:26 PM EDT

President Donald Trump implored Republicans to unite behind a reconciliation bill and "fix the MESS that Biden and the Democrats gave us" hours before fiscal hawks on the House Budget Committee sunk a key vote on advancing the legislation.

"Republicans MUST UNITE behind, "THE ONE, BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL!" Not only does it cut Taxes for ALL Americans, but it will kick millions of Illegal Aliens off of Medicaid to PROTECT it for those who are the ones in real need," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

"The Country will suffer greatly without this Legislation, with their Taxes going up 65%. It will be blamed on the Democrats, but that doesn't help our Voters. We don't need "GRANDSTANDERS" in the Republican Party. STOP TALKING, AND GET IT DONE! It is time to fix the MESS that Biden and the Democrats gave us. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Five Republicans on the committee voted no Friday to passing the "One Big Beautiful Act."

The hard-right lawmakers are insisting on steeper spending cuts to Medicaid and the Biden-era green energy tax breaks, among other changes. They warned that the tax cuts alone would pile onto the nation's $36 trillion debt.
