Tom Homan, President Donald Trump's border czar, said he'll meet with New York City Mayor Eric Adams this week to discuss the sanctuary city's illegal migrant situation.
During a Tuesday appearance on WABC 770 AM's "Cats & Cosby Show," Homan said he will visit with Adams on Thursday to discuss federal authorities apprehending criminal aliens.
"Either he [Adams] comes to the table or we go around him," Homan told hosts John Catsimatidis and Rita Cosby. "But he promised he's all in on arresting public safety threats that are here illegally and helping me find these missing children. So, I will meet with him Thursday and we'll see what [happens].
"I'm hoping we come to an agreement where his officers could help my officers remove these public safety threats, especially Tren de Aragua and the other alien gangs that are creating havoc in New York."
Homan, former acting head of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said he hoped to return to Washington "with a great agreement," but added he "won't count my pennies till I got 'em."
ICE officers and other federal personnel have focused on Trump's mass deportation of illegal migrants with criminal histories. Homan said about 14,000 have been arrested.
Homan and Adams met in December, when the border czar praised the mayor for signaling interest in cooperating with the Trump administration's effort to root out and deport illegal migrants with criminal backgrounds and locate hundreds of thousands of migrant children, the New York Post reported.
Adams' press secretary insisted Tuesday that the mayor has been clear about his position on criminal migrants in the city "since last year" and that it "remains the same."
"We have sheltered more than 230,00 migrants since the spring of 2022 — over 185,000 of which have since left our shelter system and taken the next steps in their journeys," press secretary Kayla Mamelak said. "But, as we have repeatedly said, the previous [Biden] administration should have never left New York City largely on its own to manage this crisis and foot a $7 billion bill.
"The mayor has also been clear that he wants to work with the new federal administration, not war with them, to better the lives of New Yorkers. That work includes going after the violent offenders who are wreaking havoc on our streets and ensuring they leave our city after being convicted of a crime and serving a jail sentence."
