Trump Hits at Trudeau, Pushes Perks of US-Canada Merger

By    |   Monday, 06 January 2025 03:59 PM EST

President-elect Donald Trump, reacting to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announcing his resignation, boasted Monday about how great it would be if the U.S. and the Great White North merged.

"Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State," Trump posted on Truth Social. "The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this and resigned.

"If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!"

Since winning a second term in November, Trump has floated the idea of Canada becoming the U.S.' 51st state, along with the idea to retake control of the Panama Canal and acquiring Greenland.

Fred Fleitz of the America First Policy Institute told Newsmax on Dec. 27 that Canada becoming part of the U.S. would be a victory for the Canadian people.

"Canada has a population of only 40 million — that's tiny," Fleitz, chief of staff of the National Security Council in Trump's first administration. "I don't know whether the Canadians would ever agree to join the United States, but we know that economies of scale are much more efficient.

"The Canadian people would be wealthier, they'd be more secure. It's not a crazy idea if President Trump could pull that off. Both countries would do quite well."
