Trump: Colorado Ballot Decision 'Sad Day in America'

By    |   Wednesday, 20 December 2023 10:12 AM EST

Former President Donald Trump appeared to respond to the Colorado Supreme Court's decision removing him from the state's 2024 presidential ballot, calling it "A SAD DAY IN AMERICA."

Colorado's top court on Tuesday ruled that Trump cannot appear on the ballot in next year's presidential election due to his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters.

The ruling likely will find its way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"WHAT A SHAME FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!" Trump posted Wednesday morning on Truth Social.

"BIDEN SHOULD DROP ALL OF THESE FAKE POLITICAL INDICTMENTS AGAINST ME, BOTH CRIMINAL & CIVIL. EVERY CASE I AM FIGHTING IS THE WORK OF THE DOJ & WHITE HOUSE. NO SUCH THING HAS EVER HAPPENED IN OUR COUNTRY BEFORE. BANANA REPUBLIC??? ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!!," he added.

Trump concluded his morning string of comments by saying, "A SAD DAY IN AMERICA!!!"

The 4-3 ruling from the Colorado Supreme Court made Trump the first presidential candidate in U.S. history to be deemed ineligible for the White House under a rarely used provision of the U.S. Constitution that bars officials who have engaged in "insurrection or rebellion" from holding office.

Many of Trump's opponents insist the attack on the Capitol was an insurrection.
