Naked Bicyclists Protest Trump Policies in Portland

By    |   Monday, 13 October 2025 03:47 PM EDT

Bicyclists in Portland, Oregon, stripped down to their skivvies — some wearing nothing at all — to take part in an "emergency" edition of the annual World Naked Bike Ride, protesting the Trump administration's policies.

Organizers of Sunday's annual event said another nude ride was needed to speak out against President Donald Trump's efforts to use the National Guard to quell protests outside the city's Immigration and Customs Enforcement center.

Rider Janene King, 51, who was reportedly naked except for wool socks, a wig, and a hat, called the event a "quintessentially Portland way to protest."

The New York Post reported that she sipped hot tea and said she wasn't worried about the steady rain and cool temperatures, which were in the mid-50s.

"We definitely do not want troops coming into our city," King said.

The city is waiting for an appeals court panel to rule on whether the president can deploy the federalized troops after a federal judge temporarily blocked the deployment on Oct. 5.

U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut rebuked the federal government's attorney last week and issued a more sweeping restraining order after the president moved to send National Guard troops to Oregon from California after her first order.

In an effort to avoid legal hurdles, Trump then said he was considering invoking the Insurrection Act, an 1807 law that grants the president the authority to deploy federal troops in the U.S. to quell rebellion, insurrection, or civil unrest when state or local authorities fail to maintain order or enforce federal law.

Trump has ordered National Guard troops to Los Angeles, Washington, and Memphis, Tennessee, in recent months to combat what he has described as waves of lawlessness in those cities.

Deployments to Chicago and Portland have been temporarily paused amid court challenges.

Naked bike rides have occurred in Portland every year since 2004, with about 10,000 riders cycling the streets of Oregon's largest city in some years, according to Portland World Naked Bike Ride.
