Former President Donald Trump's team on Friday told supporters that migrants in Mexico want Joe Biden to win reelection.
Citing information from a New York Post story published Friday, the Trump Make America Great Again PAC told supporters that the newspaper "reported Friday that illegal immigrants want Joe Biden to win reelection."
The Post referred to interviews that the The Free Press conducted with several migrants waiting to cross the southern border.
"If it's Trump, it doesn't matter how much I work or want to work. They won't let me in," Richard Betancourt, 46, a pipefitter from Venezuela, told The Free Press.
Added Daniel Cortez, 45, a mechanic from Honduras: "I want Biden to win."
Both were in Matamoros, Mexico, waiting to cross the border.
Immigration is a hot-button issue heading into the election, with many Americans calling it the most important problem facing the U.S., according to a Gallup poll released in February.
The surge in border crossings has led to financial constraints for some large cities, including Denver, Chicago, New York, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C., according to Axios.
The Save America PAC quoted Rodney Scott, who served as Border Patrol chief in the Trump and Biden administrations, in its email to supporters.
Scott in February told Fox News: "We handed them the most secure border in the history of the United States and a roadmap to keep it that way and make it even better. Through 94 executive actions, President Biden completely destroyed border security."
