NYT: Trump Mulls Push of Lara Trump as RNC Co-Chair

By    |   Monday, 12 February 2024 07:47 PM EST

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump is considering endorsing his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to be co-chairperson of the Republican National Committee in the event of Ronna McDaniel's departure, The New York Times reported Monday.

Lara Trump is the wife of Eric Trump, Donald Trump's second son.

Trump's outright pick to replace McDaniel at first was North Carolina Republican Party Chair Michael Whatley, it was reported last week when news surfaced that McDaniel informed Donald Trump of her decision to step down soon after South Carolina's Feb. 24 primary.

Adding Lara Trump, who he's having private discussions about adding along with Whatley, would give him a family connection into the RNC. Further, she's a prolific fundraiser, according to the Times.

In the wake of last week's report, McDaniel came out to say she's not yet stepping down from the RNC.

"Myself and my staff are refusing to be distracted by the outside noise and we remain committed to our mission — rumors to the contrary are simply not true. Nothing has changed and there will not be any changes decided on until after South Carolina, when we may have our eventual nominee," she said in a memo.

Regardless, Donald Trump told Newsmax before the report that McDaniel "knows" it's time to step down.

While Trump can endorse whoever he wants to replace McDaniel, the candidate(s) still need to be voted on by the 168 members of the party committee.

McDaniel has been RNC chair since 2017.

Lara Trump is a frequent guest on Newsmax and host of "The Right View with Lara Trump" podcast.
