Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., is building support for her nomination to be President-elect Donald Trump's U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Breitbart reported.
Stefanik, 40, who serves as House Republican Conference Chair, has long been one of Trump's most loyal allies in the House, and was among those discussed as a potential vice-presidential choice.
She has met with 36 senators of the 53 coming in to drum up support for her nomination.
Defeat of a nominee by vote in the Senate is extremely rare.
Stefanik told Breitbart she plans to push Trump's agenda of "America First peace through strength national security," which will "bring back needed strength and leadership to the world stage."
"In just two weeks, I have met with over half of the Republican Senate and look forward to continuing to work to earn support through the confirmation process to deliver on President Trump's national security priorities at the U.N," Stefanik said.
