Elon Musk's new PAC has been working to turn out voters for former President Donald Trump in battleground states.
America PAC was founded by the billionaire, who endorsed Trump earlier this year. The group has been knocking on doors in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, hiring additional canvassers to boost voter turnout.
But the PAC has run into issues, the Washington Post reported, with Musk's erratic leadership style leading to sudden firings and limiting its effectiveness. Multiple vendors have been fired and the oppressive heat in Arizona and Nevada have made it difficult to retain door-knockers, the Post said.
America PAC has spent $87 million on the presidential race, with 61% devoted to field operations, according to the filings from the Federal Election Commission. Musk, the owner of X, formerly Twitter, has prioritized door-knocking over running TV ads, the Post reported.
The PAC is also investing in direct mail, urging voters to check their registration or cast ballots. America PAC has spent more on direct mail than all of the GOP state parties combined, the Post reported, citing Mint.
Canvassers have been told to focus their time on getting Trump supporters to vote early, rather than trying to change the minds of Harris supporters or undecided voters, the Post reported.
Canvassers are urged to say Trump would lower taxes and crack down on illegal immigration, while Harris is a dangerous liberal who would hike taxes, open the border, and let criminals "walk free," according to the Post.
On X, while responding to a canvasser complaining about pay, Musk appeared to acknowledge issues with the PAC.
"Sorry, so many dumb things happening. Working on fixing," he said.
