Tesla CEO Elon Musk suggested that the electric vehicle manufacturer could get the Cybertruck that exploded outside President-elect Donald Trump's Las Vegas hotel on New Year's Day "back on the road" after repairing the damage.
In a Thursday post on X, which he owns, Musk noted that the Cybertruck's "battery pack never even caught fire and the tires are still inflated!"
"Once we get this Cybertruck back to Tesla, we'll buff out the scratches and get it back on the road," he said.
It was unknown how serious Musk was in his remarks, and Newsmax has reached out to Tesla for clarification.
The Cybertruck involved in the Wednesday morning explosion was reportedly packed with "fireworks-style mortars" and is being investigated as a possible act of terror.
The vehicle's operator, whom authorities believe to be Matthew Livelsberger, a highly decorated U.S. Army Green Beret, reportedly shot himself in the head before the explosion, which wounded seven bystanders.
Although investigators have not conclusively identified the remains as Livelsberger, identification found in the vehicle and tattoos on the body "give a strong indication that it's him," according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill.
During a news conference, McMahill said that the damage done to the Cybertruck in the explosion was limited because of its design.
"The fact that this was a Cybertruck really limited the damage that occurred inside the valet because it had most of the blast go up through the truck and out," McMahill told reporters.
Musk seized on McMahill's comments, reposting video of the news conference and writing on X: "The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack. Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards. Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken."
Musk said Wednesday he is considering suing media outlets that framed their coverage of the Cybertruck explosion as a vehicle malfunction instead of a deliberate attack.
Musk donated millions to Trump's campaign and is set to hold a key position in his new administration as co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency.
