Elon Musk revealed Wednesday that Twitter has engaged in election interference and vowed the social media platform will be more transparent going forward.
"The obvious reality, as long-time users know, is that Twitter has failed in trust & safety for a very long time and has interfered in elections," Musk tweeted.
Musk, who bought Twitter for $44 billion on Oct. 27, last week tweeted that it "is necessary to restore public trust" for the company to release all internal discussions to censor the New York Post's story on Hunter Biden's laptop leading up to the 2020 presidential election.
The Post's story connected dots between Biden's business dealings with Ukraine and China during his father's time as Barack Obama's vice president. It was censored from Twitter and Facebook, and most mainstream media outlets refused to cover it.
Yoel Roth, the former head of trust and safety at Twitter who resigned last month, said Wednesday the company erred by censoring the story. However, Reuters reported Roth said Tuesday that Twitter wasn't safer with Musk in charge.
Eva Fox, a blogger who covers Elon Musk, responded to that story with a tweet: "Twitter has shown itself to be not safe for the past 10 years and has lost users' trust. The past team of 'trust and safety' is a disgrace, so it doesn't have any right to judge what is being done now. They had a chance, but they sold their souls to a corporation."
Musk agreed in a reply to Fox's tweet and added, "Twitter 2.0 will be far more effective, transparent and even-handed."
