Elon Musk told his 200 million-plus followers on X in a post Tuesday not to donate to online encyclopedia Wikipedia until "they restore balance to their editing authority," mocking it as "Wokepedia."
The founder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX was responding to another user who presented a graph from Wikipedia's annual report that showed 29% of its budget had been spent on "equity" and "safety & inclusion."
Newsweek reported Tuesday that research by David Rozado, an associate professor in computational science at New Zealand's Otago Polytechnic, found that "Wikipedia was more likely to portray right-leaning figures negatively than their left-leaning counterparts."
However, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales has denied there is bias, and others have claimed that studies showing it to be "woke" are mostly anecdotes.
