Flipping New Jersey red, at least at the gubernatorial level, appears within reach for Republican Jack Ciattarelli, according to the latest New Jersey gubernatorial polling.
In what has been a reliably Democrat-held state, Ciattarelli has pulled into a statistical tie with Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., trailing by a single point (48%-47%) which is well within the margin of error in the latest Co/efficient poll released Monday.
Ciattarelli ran a strong race against term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, in 2021, losing by just 3 points (43%-40%), proving he has wide appeal in a state that has not voted Republican in a presidential election since 1988.
The full results of the gubernatorial poll:
- Sherrill 48%
- Ciattarelli 47%
- Libertarian candidate Vic Kaplan 1%
- Socialist Workers Party nominee Joanne Kuniansky, less than 1%
There were 5% of the likely general election voters still undecided in the race that concludes on Election Day, Nov. 4.
Ciattarelli dominates with men (54%-38%) and voters 55 and older. Independents favor Ciattarelli (48%-39%). Ciattarelli also leads with 53% majorities among both white and Asian voters.
Ideologically, conservatives back Ciattarelli by an 87% margin, while liberals overwhelmingly support Sherrill (92%).
The Co/efficient poll was conducted Oct. 23-27 among 995 likely general election voters, and the results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.27 percentage points.
