Authorities are investigating what they describe as an “intentional” explosion early Saturday morning at a Harvard University medical facility in Boston.
The incident occurred around 2:48 a.m. inside the Goldenson Building, part of Harvard’s medical campus. A fire alarm triggered a response from the Harvard University Police Department, and an officer arriving at the scene saw two unidentified individuals running from the building, according to a statement from university police.
The explosion took place on the building’s fourth floor. No injuries were reported.
Preliminary findings by the Boston Fire Department’s arson unit suggest the blast was deliberate, NBC News reported Sunday. Boston police later swept the building for additional explosive devices but found none.
Harvard University released surveillance images Saturday evening showing two people wanted for questioning in connection with the explosion—one wearing a balaclava, the other in a hooded sweatshirt with their face covered. Officials are asking the public to help identify the individuals.
The investigation is being led by the Harvard University Police Department in coordination with Boston police, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The FBI is assisting at the scene.
