By    |   Monday, 10 June 2024 03:13 PM EDT

A majority of Jewish voters continue to support President Joe Biden, according to a new poll.

The poll, conducted by the American Jewish Committee from March 12 to April 6 as part of its 2024 survey of American Jewish Opinion, found 61% would vote for Biden, and 23% would vote for former President Donald Trump. In 2020, Jewish voters polled said they supported Biden over Trump with a 64% to 21% edge.

American Jews also view antisemitism as a serious problem. According to the poll, 56% said antisemitism is a serious problem, while 37% said it is somewhat of a problem. Only 7% said it is not a problem. A majority of those polled said they trust Biden more than Trump to handle antisemitism, 55% to 20%.

Those polled also said antisemitism has increased since the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas, with 55% saying it increased a lot, while 33% said it increased somewhat. Only 1% said it has decreased, while 12% said it stayed the same.

The poll also found that 42% of respondents feel unsafe wearing Jewish symbols out in public since Oct. 7 compared to 39% who feel safe. American Jews also said they feel unsafe sharing their thoughts on Israel on social media, 45% to 29% who feel safe.

Since the Oct. 7 attacks, 85% of American Jews said they think it’s important for America to support Israel while 57% said they feel more connected to their Jewish identity. When it comes to the U.S.-Israel relationship, 49% said Biden would be better for it, while 25% picked Trump.

Biden had an overall approval rating of 56% though only 48% for his handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

The AJC survey included 1,001 Jewish adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
