Rep. Jim Jordan Requests Interview With Biden's Ghostwriter

By    |   Wednesday, 14 February 2024 10:13 PM EST

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Wednesday issued a formal request to Mark Zwonitzer, the ghostwriter for President Joe Biden's memoirs, seeking his cooperation in an ongoing inquiry, Just the News reported.

The request, made in a letter sent via email, is for Zwonitzer to participate in an interview and to submit any relevant materials connected to his collaboration on Biden's books.

This action follows the release of special counsel Robert Hur's investigation report on Biden's management of classified documents. The report, made public on Feb. 8, did not recommend charges against Biden but highlighted instances in which the former vice president allegedly mishandled classified information. According to Hur, there is evidence suggesting Biden "willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen."

Jordan, in his correspondence to Zwonitzer, cited the Hur report, stating it "unequivocally provides that 'during many of the interviews with his ghostwriter, [President] Biden read from his notebooks nearly verbatim, sometimes for an hour or more at a time,' and 'at least three times [President] Biden read classified notes from national security meetings to [you] nearly verbatim.'" Jordan's letter further contends that these findings cast doubt on Biden's previous assertions of not sharing classified information with his ghostwriter.

The letter also references the existence of audio recordings from discussions between Biden and Zwonitzer regarding the memoirs "Promise Me, Dad" and "Promises to Keep," which Jordan believes could be pertinent to the committee's investigation. In light of these revelations, Jordan has set a deadline of Feb. 23 for Zwonitzer to comply with the committee's request for documents and recordings, as well as to arrange a date for the interview.
