Kevin Morris, a top Hollywood lawyer and friend of Hunter Biden, testified for House investigators Thursday as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, The New York Post reported.
Morris met with the legislators and attorneys on the House Oversight and Judiciary panels for a meeting that began in the morning and was expected to go on for much of the day, according to the Washington Examiner.
Republicans reportedly are interested in claims made by two IRS whistleblowers that Morris, who is also a Democrat donor, according to federal election data, paid off millions of Hunter Biden's outstanding taxes in 2020.
Morris' testimony comes as House Republicans continue to seek a closed-door deposition from Hunter Biden, who refused to comply with a subpoena that his attorney, Abbe Lowell, said is "legally invalid," leading Republicans to threaten to hold him in contempt of Congress.
A spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee told NBC News that "negotiations are ongoing" for Biden to appear before the panels. The spokesperson also noted that "in conjunction with the disruption to member travel and canceling votes, the House Rules Committee isn't considering the contempt resolution today to give the attorneys additional time to reach an agreement."
