The executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, a group that works to promote equal rights for LGBT people within the GOP, has resigned after the organization's board endorsed President Donald Trump, the Washington Blade reports.
Jerri Ann Henry, the first woman to head the group, submitted her resignation last Friday and departed Monday. Sources familiar with the organization told the Blade that her discussions with board members had been "harsh," and a disagreement between members of the group who wanted to support Trump and those who wanted to focus on policies helping LGBT people caused Henry to be prohibited from speaking on behalf of the group.
The group announced it would support Trump earlier this month without having any members meet with the president or gain any firm commitments from him. Henry did not sign the op-ed endorsing him in The Washington Post. The Blade's sources said Henry was unhappy with Trump and disliked the group's defense of its endorsement in the media.
Log Cabin spokesperson Charles Moran told the Blade that Henry "did tender her resignation," on Monday.
"The final date of her employment is undetermined at this time," Moran said. "The board's executive committee will proceed with an orderly transition to ensure nothing falls through the cracks."
