Seven Ukrainian children have been reunited with their families under an ongoing children's reunification initiative backed by first lady Melania Trump, the White House said Thursday.
In a statement, Trump said her "dedication" to ensuring the safe return of children to their families "is unwavering."
"I commend the leadership and persistent diplomacy of Russia and Ukraine in the pursuit of the reunification of children and families," the first lady said.
"Their bridge-building has created a tangible collaborative environment, an anchor for optimism. This cooperation will continue to drive the process forward through the next phase," she added.
Trump also said she and her representative have provided humanitarian support from the United States to bolster the initiative's results, adding that she hopes the effort can contribute to broader regional stability.
