By    |   Tuesday, 12 November 2024 08:21 AM EST

Newsmax host and former Congressman Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., was paralyzed during a recent horse-riding accident.

Grimm suffered severe injuries that left him paralyzed from the neck down after he was thrown from a horse in September.

Grimm has become a popular contributor and host on Newsmax’s shows. At the time of the incident, Michael was hosting the network’s “Wake Up Weekend” morning show co-hosted with Sarah Williamson.

“Michael, as always, has a positive attitude, being the Marine that he is, his strength of character will help him get through this” said Williamson.

She recently visited Grimm at the hospital, said he was in good spirits, but has a “a very long road to recovery.”

“We miss him and look forward to him coming back,” she said.

Grimm's friends and supporters have rallied to his side and recently launched a GoFundMe page to help in paying his significant medical bills.

"Our friend, veteran Marine, FBI Agent, and US Congressman Michael Grimm was paralyzed following a devastating accident when thrown from a horse in September 2024,” the GoFundMe page says.

“[T]hrough the grace of God, Mr. Grimm has miraculously thread[ed] the needle to survive,” the page continues, adding “Yet, his ongoing care and the treatment to walk again will cost millions of dollars."

"For a man who has dedicated his life to helping others, we now humbly ask that you give generously to help him."

Grimm, 54, is being treated at a rehabilitation center in New Jersey — the same facility where late actor Christopher Reeve recovered after being paralyzed from the neck down from a fall from a horse.

"He's currently immobilized and is currently being treated to try to give him the function that he can obtain. A lot of prayers are needed," former New York City Councilman Vincent Ignizio told the New York Post.

"Staten Island always steps up when someone is in need, and I'm hopeful that they do the same for a former congressman and friend, Michael Grimm," Ignizio, current deputy executive director of the New York City Board of Elections, told the Staten Island Advance.

As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe page had raised more than $86,000. The goal is $2.5 million.

In September, Newsmax's Greg Kelly, a fellow Marine, said Grimm had sustained a neck injury that required surgery, and that the former congressman was in an unidentified Westchester hospital.

An avid horseman, Grimm frequently posted on social media about horses and playing polo.

A conservative Republican, Grimm has been a long-time supporter of President Donald Trump.

“Michael has been a colleague, a friend, and a great American,” Chris Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax said. “We are all praying for him and the results are already showing.”

Grimm represented Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn in the U.S. House and most recently had been active in a real estate business.
