Mike Huckabee, U.S. Ambassador to Israel, on Wednesday said the embassy in Jerusalem is working on ways to get Americans out of Israel, one day after the embassy reported it has no announcement about ways to get people out as the threat of a U.S. strike on Iran grows.
In his notice, Huckabee said on X that the embassy is working on evacuation flights and cruise ship departures from Israel.
"You must enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)," he added. "You will be alerted with updates."
On Tuesday, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem posted on X that it had "no announcement about assisting private U.S. citizens to depart at this time," but added that the "Department of State is always planning for contingencies to assist with private U.S. citizens' departure from crisis areas."
The embassy also announced that it would be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, in compliance with the Israel Home Front Command guidance.
Third parties are assisting U.S. citizens in leaving Israel, the embassy added in its message, but stressed that it is not able to endorse any of those providers.
Huckabee's announcement comes while President Donald Trump on Wednesday said it is getting "late" for Iran to enter negotiations and that he has not decided about striking Iran.
"You don't know that I'm going to even do it," he told reporters at the White House. "You don't know. I may do it. I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I'm going to do."
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said the U.S. will face serious consequences if it enters the conflict and launches strikes on his country.
"The harm the US will suffer will definitely be irreparable if they enter this conflict militarily," Khamenei wrote on X on Wednesday.
