Trump Issues Proclamation Honoring Minneapolis Victims

By    |   Wednesday, 27 August 2025 02:27 PM EDT

President Donald Trump on Wednesday issued a formal proclamation in response to the tragedy that struck Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A gunman opened fire with a rifle through the windows of a Catholic church and struck a group of children celebrating Mass during the first week of school, killing two and wounding 17 people in an act of violence the police chief called "absolutely incomprehensible."

The president, calling the events "senseless acts of violence," directed that the United States flag be lowered to half-staff as a mark of solemn respect for the victims.

The order applies not only to the White House but also to all public buildings and grounds, military posts, naval stations, and government vessels throughout the nation and its territories.

It further extends overseas, requiring U.S. embassies, consulates, and all other federal facilities and military sites abroad to observe the same tribute.

This gesture of mourning will remain in place until sunset on Aug. 31, serving as a nationwide symbol of solidarity and remembrance for those lost in the tragedy.
