Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., 82, fell twice outside the Senate chamber Wednesday but he appears to be OK, Newsweek reported, citing multiple media outlets.
Chad Pergram, a senior congressional correspondent for Fox News, posted on X that McConnell fell down a set of stairs after voting to confirm Scott Turner as President Donald Trump's Secretary for Housing and Urban Development. McConnell was helped up by Sens. Steve Daines, R-Mont., and Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., and appeared to be OK.
Igor Bobic, a senior political reporter at HuffPost, wrote on X that McConnell, who resigned last year as the Senate's top Republican after a nearly two-decade run, fell again after being helped to his feet.
"He’s in GOP lunch now, standing," Bobic wrote. "His colleagues are huddled around him."
In late December, McConnell, who also last year announced he would not run for an eighth six-year term in 2026, fell following a Senate lunch, resulting in a sprained wrist and a cut on his face.
In March 2023, McConnell fell at a hotel in Washington, D.C., and was hospitalized after suffering a concussion and a fractured rib. He took a six-week absence from the Senate following the fall.
Four months later, McConnell fell again while getting off a flight that was canceled at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. He was not seriously injured. He also had two episodes in 2023 in which he appeared to freeze in front of TV cameras. He told reporters after one of the incidents that he was "fine," and the Capitol physician cleared him to work.
