Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., missed the final weekly press conference of his near two-decade stint as GOP leader for precautionary reasons after a fall last week, the Washington Examiner reported Tuesday.
McConnell injured his wrist in the fall leaving the GOP luncheon on Dec. 10. The 82-year-old began experiencing leg stiffness later in the week. The Examiner reported that McConnell skipped Tuesday's leadership press conference as a precaution, adding that his leg stiffness was better.
Earlier Tuesday, McConnell was seen walking with the help of an aide, according to the report.
Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., will be installed as Senate Majority Leader in January, the beginning of the 119th Congress.
McConnell has pledged to serve out his remaining term as a rank-and-file senator, which ends in January 2027. However, he froze up twice over the summer at separate public appearances, incidents that raised questions about his health. He also fell in March 2023 and sustained a concussion.
McConnell has been Senate Republican leader since 2007, including majority leader from 2015-21.
