Rep. Mace Rails Against 'Woke Nonsense' in CR

By    |   Thursday, 19 December 2024 04:16 PM EST

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., posted an extensive list Wednesday of the "woke nonsense" populating much of the now-defunct continuing resolution bill.

Mace detailed the many provisions that were slipped into the package along with the continued funding of the government for another four months. President-elect Donald Trump, along with the Department of Government Efficiency heads, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, flooded social media to urge representatives to kill the bill.

Mace opened by clarifying the difference between this latest attempt and past spending bills.

"The difference between a CR and an omnibus: A CR is supposed to be 'Continuing' spending at previously appropriated levels (which were already too high)," she posted on X. "An omnibus is a combination of the appropriation bills to appropriate funding at new levels for the duration of the fiscal year.

"A good way to think of this CR is that it truly is a 'CRomnibus' - because there is a 9-page CR and then there is new spending and hundreds of pages of other unrelated provisions."

Noting how Congress is keen on passing laws, Mace highlighted a section that "exempts members of Congress from having to enroll in Obamacare."

Mace then dialed into the ink devoted to pet projects and politically correct language.

The lawmakers who wrote the bill saw fit to redefine hurtful language such as "homeless individuals" would change to "individuals experiencing homelessness," "out of school youth" as "opportunity youth," and "criminal offender" as "justice-involved individual," among other changes.

"We should not pass over a thousand pages of substantive policy changes in the lame duck, 33 days before President Trump takes the oath of office," Mace said. "It's time to go back to following the law in the 1974 Budget and Control Act that requires Congress to pass a budget and fund it via 12 appropriations bills."

If a deal is not reached by Friday night, the government will shut down effectively stopping all nonessential work.
