2 National Guard Members Shot in D.C.; Suspect in Custody

Two uniformed military personnel, appearing to be National Guardsmen, were shot Wednesday in downtown Washington, D.C., just blocks from the White House, ABC News reported, citing two sources familiar with the ongoing situation.

The Metropolitan Police Department wrote on X that the scene of a shooting at 17th and I Street was secure and that a suspect was in custody. The supect's identity wasn't immediately known.

"Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington, D.C.," Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X. "@DHSgov is working with local law enforcement to gather more information."
