NBA star Steph Curry, whose long-range shooting ability helped reshape the game, says there's "urgency in the moment" because retirement is near.
The 36-year-old Curry presently is in his 16th season, all with the Golden State Warriors.
"It's okay to accept and acknowledge that the end is near at whatever point," Curry said in the video, posted by the NBA on ESPN X account. "But only because it allows you to enjoy what’s happening right now.
"But I think the more you talk about it and the more you acknowledge it, it levels up just the sense of urgency of the moment now."
Curry and the Warriors were scheduled to play the Los Angeles Lakers, who include 39-year-old Lebron James, on Christmas night.
Drafted out of Davidson in 2009, Curry needed little time to display his prowess from behind the 3-point line. For his career, he’s averaging nearly 25 points per game and has shot 42.5% from behind the arc.
The guard's long-range shooting ability helped inspire other teams and players in both the NBA and college to embrace the 3-point shot.
Son of former NBA player Dell Curry, Steph has been part of four NBA championship teams. He's also a 10-time All-Star, two-time scoring champion, and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player.
A certain future Hall of Famer, Curry is under contract with Golden State through 2026-27, NBC Sports Bay Area reported.
"No secret ... it always has been and still is a goal of mine to be a Warrior for life, to stay competitive throughout that process," Curry said in October after signing a one-year contract extension. "I know it's kind of unheard of, the shortlist of guys that have been in that position.
"I'm very confident in the fact that being here and being a relevant winning team is possible. Until I'm proven otherwise, that's the way I'm moving forward."
