Farage's Party Now Second in Britain

By    |   Wednesday, 15 January 2025 09:22 AM EST

Support for Nigel Farage's conservative populist Reform UK is close to supplanting that of Labour for the top political party in the United Kingdom, according to a new survey.

Labour (26%) edges Reform UK (25%) in the first YouGov/Times survey since the 2024 general election.

The Conservatives (22%) are in third place (22%), followed by the Liberal Democrats (14%), and the Green Party (8%).

Last month, The Telegraph reported that Reform UK's membership was surging, with numbers published showing the party is now about 11,000 members short of surpassing the Tories.

In July, the center-left Labour won a massive majority in the 650-seat parliament, with Keir Starmer becoming prime minister. However, Farage, a driving force behind Britain's decision to leave the European Union, was elected to parliament and Reform UK emerged as a new force in British politics by squeezing the Conservative vote from the right.

The YouGov/Times poll found that Reform has replaced the Tories as the most popular conservative party among 18-24 year olds, with 19% of the youngest age group saying they would back Farage's party at a new general election, compared to only 5% who favor the Conservatives.

Although the Tories remain the most popular party among voters aged 65 and above, 30% the demographic say they intend to vote for Reform UK, compared to 35% for the Conservatives.

The poll results also show that only a slim majority of Labour's voters say they would back the party in another election (54%).

The survey found that only 4% of those who voted for Reform UK in the 2024 general election say they plan to vote for the Conservatives. Not only that, the Tories have lost 15% of their 2024 voters to Farage's party.

Men favor Reform UK over Labour by a 30%-27% margin, while women split 25%-25% between Labour and the Conservatives.
