A canyon-size majority of Republican voters approve of the brisk pace set by the Senate GOP majority in approving President Donald Trump's Cabinet nominations, according to a recent poll affiliated with the Senate Republican Conference.
The national survey of 995 voters conducted between Feb. 7-9 by GrayHouse, a firm connected to Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., chair of the Senate Republican Conference, showed that 87% of Republican voters approved, including 48% who strongly approved, of the job Senate Republicans are doing to confirm Trump's nominees, Breitbart reported Tuesday. Only 9% disapproved.
As of Tuesday, which marked the 22nd day of Trump's presidency, the Senate had confirmed 13 Cabinet nominees, with votes on two more – Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services – reportedly on tap for Wednesday.
It is a pace almost twice as fast as during the Biden administration or Trump's first administration, according to Breitbart.
"Democrats are obviously trying to slow down the process, but we've been moving right along," Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said in a written statement to Breitbart. "And we will continue to maintain an aggressive pace until President Trump has his entire team in place."
When told of the pace that Senate Republicans are taking to confirm Trump's nominees, 60% of Republican voters polled strongly approved of the lawmakers' performance. By contrast, 85% of Democrats disapproved.
"While Senate Democrats are fighting to keep sending taxpayer dollars to fund trans surgeries in Guatemala, Senate Republicans are delivering on our promise to make America safe and prosperous," Cotton said in a statement to Breitbart. "We will keep confirming President Trump's nominees so we can lower prices, deport illegal aliens, and deliver for the American people."
Cotton shared the polling results Tuesday with the Senate Republicans to encourage them to maintain the pace and help deliver on Trump's election mandate.
"President Trump picked strong, bold nominees to fill his Cabinet," Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said in a statement to Breitbart. "Republicans are confirming them at record speed because that's what President Trump and the American people deserve.
"Republicans are taking advantage of every moment and pushing past Democrat filibusters. We will keep our foot on the gas until the president's entire Cabinet is confirmed."
