Hillary Clinton joked during a weekend appearance in India that American voters do not deserve President Donald Trump.

Clinton answered questions in front of a crowd in Mumbai on Saturday and was asked if voters deserve the government they elect.

"I would have to say, no, we did not deserve that," Clinton said, reported India Today.

Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, then explained her belief Trump won because he ran a campaign unlike any other that had come before.

"He ran the first reality TV campaign, and he was the first reality TV candidate. What does that mean?" she said.

"If you watch reality TV, you know it means that the person who is the most outrageous, the person who says the politically incorrect things, the person who's insulting and attacking, drives big ratings. I think part of what happened in the election is almost an attraction that many people had to the role that was being played by him as a candidate for president."

Clinton then told a story from the second debate between her and Trump, a town hall-style debate. She accused Trump of "stalking me" on the stage.

"I think most voters want a president who keeps her cool, who is calm and composed, and doesn't get thrown off her game, or get upset, or get angry, or, Heaven forbid, emotional," Clinton recalled thinking onstage at the time. "So, I'm not going to respond. I'm going to ignore him."

Clinton, however, admitted she has second thoughts about not confronting Trump for walking and standing so close to her during the town hall.

"If people were looking for the reality TV campaign, maybe I should have given them more entertainment," she said.

Clinton, who has served as a first lady, senator, and secretary of state during her political career, said the onus is on voters to separate what they might see are entertaining qualities about a candidate and what the candidate would be able to accomplish if he or she is elected.
