Riley Gaines 'Ambushed' by Trans Activists

By    |   Friday, 07 April 2023 11:01 AM EDT

Riley Gaines, a former NCAA All-American swimmer, shot video of herself being ambushed by transgender activists and claims she was hit by one of them.

The incident happened Thursday after she tried to address a Turning Point USA event at San Francisco State University.

She tweeted video early Thursday morning and wrote: "The prisoners are running the asylum at SFSU... I was ambushed and physically hit twice by a man. This is proof that women need sex-protected spaces. Still only further assures me I'm doing something right. When they want you silent, speak louder."

In March, after ESPN hailed transgender swimmer Lia Thomas for Women's History Month, Gaines shot back in a pointed rebuke of the network, the biological man, and the NCAA.

"Lia Thomas is not a brave, courageous woman who earned a national title," Gaines, an outspoken advocate for keeping biological men out of women's sports, had tweeted. "He is an arrogant cheat who stole a national title from a hardworking, deserving woman."

The Daily Mail noted that in one video of the Thursday incident, Gaines is seen leaving the room where she was speaking at the university. She appeared to be escorted by police.

She was followed by protesters who heckled her and chanted: "Trans rights are human rights."

According to the news outlet, Gaines' husband, Louis Barker, said he spoke briefly with her while was locked in a room for nearly three hours to escape the protesters.

"She told me she was hit multiple times by a guy in a dress. I was shaking. It made me that mad. It makes me sick to feel so helpless about it," Barker said. "She was under police protection and was still hit by a man wearing a dress."

The Washington Examiner reported the event began just before 7 p.m. PST. About five hours later, police told protesters to disperse or face arrest.
