The iconic restaurant booth seen in the closing scenes of the last episode of "The Sopranos" was auctioned off on Monday for a staggering $82,600, according to reports.
The booth featured in "The Sopranos" finale is not a set piece but real customer seating within Holsten's, a traditional ice cream parlor in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
The 60-year-old establishment has decided to part with this iconic furniture, which has drawn countless fans of the show to the shop since the episode aired in 2007.
Owner Chris Carley told the New York Post last week that they're selling it as part of a necessary renovation.
Given the public's interest in visiting the bench, he had hoped that the Mafia show memorabilia would fetch a good price at auction.
"We still have people coming in asking to sit in the Soprano booth. We still get bus tours on Saturday and on-location tours. Over the summer you'll see people taking pictures outside and people taking pictures of the booth," Carley had said. "It's not the frenzy it was when it happened 17 years ago, but it's still quite a popular attraction."
On Wednesday night, he listed the two red leather booth benches, table, divider wall, and plaque reading “Reserved for the Sopranos Family” for auction on eBay.
Despite the ongoing attention the booth had garnered, Carley found it surprising when bids soared to $32,000 within just a day. By Monday, close to 240 bids had been placed before it finally sold. The iconic piece of TV history fetched a remarkable $82,600 shortly after 7 p.m. However, the identity of the buyer remains undisclosed.
For fans of Holsten's, and "The Sopranos," it's reassuring to learn that the parlor's renovations are purely practical. Despite the updates, the old-timey shop will remain unchanged.
"Everything's going to be the same," Carley said. "Actually if we didn't say anything and just did it, most people wouldn't recognize that we had switched them. That's how exactly the same it's going to be."
