Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity began her expected campaign for governor with an ad criticizing Democrat Gov. Josh Shapiro for being a career politician.
"Instead of Pennsylvania, Shapiro has been spending his time in other states, raising money from the most radical liberals to bankroll his campaign for president," the ad says. "Shapiro has also been traveling out of state to appear on the most liberal talk shows, including 'The View' and 'The Daily Show' and Colbert to talk about his run for president."
John Brabender, an adviser for Garrity, said the ad was "both the first ad of 2026 and 2028."
"And that’s just a start," Brabender told Politico.
Garrity is seen as the Republican candidate with the best chance of defeating Shapiro, who has a 61% approval rating in the state, according to a recent Morning Consult poll. Shapiro also had $11 million in his campaign coffers at the end of last year, Politico reported.
Shapiro said while Republicans decide their candidate, he was going to focus on his job.
"Here’s what I know to be true: The Republicans will nominate someone to run against me for governor. Let them play that out," Shapiro said last month. "They’ll deal with their politics on their side. I’m going to continue doing my job governing for all Pennsylvanians, Democrats, Republicans, independents and keep getting stuff done."
Garrity has yet to officially announce her campaign, saying, "Help is on the way. Stay tuned."
