Steve Bannon, a White House strategist in the first Trump administration, said Monday during his "War Room" podcast that Americans who lost jobs to immigrants using H-1B visas should receive reparations.
"The workers that are here on H-1B visas should be deported at the same time we're deporting the 15 million illegal aliens [Joe] Biden brought across the border to suppress wages to low-income workers," Bannon said. "American workers should be hired immediately to fill those gaps, and then we should start the discussions on reparations, on what they knowingly did to American tech workers."
Bannon broached the topic of H-1B visas after Tesla and X owner Elon Musk last week condemned opposition to the temporary work permit that allows companies to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations.
"The reason I'm in America," Musk posted Friday on X, "along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B. Take a big step back and [bleep] YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend."
Bannon criticized Musk and others in Big Tech for promoting an immigration policy favoring their bottom line at the expense of American workers. Bannon made it a point in his monologue that his defense was in favor of Americans regardless of gender, race, or religion.
"The skills" of foreign workers "are not any different than American citizens," Bannon said, referring to billionaires in Big Tech like Musk. "Don't sit there and lie; you can't fill those spots."
