Jason Miller, a senior adviser to Donald Trump, said Monday that the president-elect’s comments about jailing House Jan. 6 select committee members were taken out of context.
In an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, Trump said that Democrats who weaponized Jan. 6 events against their political opposition — including anti-Trump former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney — should be investigated and "go to jail" for breaking the law.
When pressed if he would force his attorney general and Justice Department to go after political opponents, Trump said, "Not at all," but admitted there could be investigations of unlawful political prosecutions.
“What President Trump said, if you listen to the entire 'Meet the Press' interview, is he wants everyone who he puts into key positions of leadership ... to apply the law equally to everybody,” Miller told CNN on Monday.
“As far as the politics aspect, if you listen to the entire interview with President Trump, he said he's going to leave that up to the law enforcement agents in charge, including Pam Bondi and Kash Patel,” Miller added.
