A new poll from YouGov shows that many former election workers believe other poll workers might try to interfere in the November election.
The poll found that 36% of former poll workers said that they thought it was very or somewhat likely that poll workers will attempt to tamper with the election. The poll split along partisan lines, with 56% of Republicans believing poll workers would try to tamper with the election compared to 28% of Democrats.
Overall, the poll found 39% of respondents believe poll workers would attempt to tamper with the election, though only 27% believed they would be successful.
The poll, conducted Sept. 5-8, surveyed 1,127 U.S. citizens, of which 9% said they formerly worked as poll workers. The poll has a margin of error of 3.8%, and is larger for poll workers due to the small sample size. although the error margin is larger among former poll workers surveyed because of the small sample size.
A poll taken in 2022 found similar results when asked if people believed poll workers would try to tamper with the midterm elections.
Election workers have come under scrutiny since the 2020 election amid numerous claims of voter fraud.
A survey by the Brennan Center earlier this year found that 38% of local election officials experienced threats, harassment, or abuse, while 40% said they had added security measures to election offices and polling stations, including installing bulletproof glass and panic buttons, Newsweek reported.
