Former Trump administration Labor Secretary Alex Acosta told Newsmax on Wednesday that the financial markets are already showing signs of economic rebound the morning after President-elect Donald Trump mounted what's being hailed as the biggest political comeback in U.S. history to win a second White House term.
"It's a glorious morning," Acosta told "National Report." "It was an amazing economic comeback and what you're seeing in the markets this morning is the start — amazing political comeback — you're seeing the start of an economic comeback. The Dow surged more than 1,000 points. You know, it's interesting. The Russell 2000, which is a much broader index, it includes a lot of the smaller businesses that create jobs here in America that do business here in America, is up over 5%. And so the market's saying the economy is going to get better and it's going to get better for those that are working here in America."
When asked when voters might begin to see a return on their vote investment, Acosta said that Trump's win is already delivering.
"You're seeing it in the markets already this morning, it has begun," he said. "President-elect, President Trump has experience, he has been in office. He knows what to do. And I can guarantee that the transition is well underway, that they're already awake this morning working on policy proposals, working on executive orders, working on personnel, so that come January, the administration starts and starts quickly and doesn't waste any time.
"He is ready to go, he is anxious to go. They have tried everything. They have tried lawfare. They have tried a biased media. And the American people made a very knowing and intentional choice. They want him because he brings good jobs and he defends America and he's going to go to work literally today."
As for a potential return to Trump's Cabinet, Acosta said that he "would be honored to serve," if asked, but that the president-elect has a "number of great people that are being considered for all the Cabinet posts."
"This is a team effort," he said. "So many people have wanted him back in office, not only because of the individual, but because they've seen what has happened to America over the last four years and people need to now listen to what the American people said.
"They need to listen to the American people's vote, which means stop the wokeness, bring back great jobs, reduce inflation, reduce the size of government, and I and others will do whatever, inside or outside of government, we can to support him."
