Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., told Newsmax on Monday that he was informed the United States has the capability to thwart a cyberattack from China, but the Biden administration did not act.
Speaking with "The Chris Salcedo Show" on the breaking news that China hacked the Treasury Department, Harris said, "Well, this is very serious. And obviously, the Biden administration didn't take it seriously. Maybe it's because of the business connections Hunter Biden had with China. I don't know. The National Archives is obviously part of the deep state trying to hide this relationship."
TechCrunch reported Monday evening that members of Congress received a letter from the Treasury Department informing them that it had been hit by a cyberattack earlier in December. The Department attributed the attack to Chinese hackers.
The spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C., Liu Pengyu, denied the Chinese government's involvement in the attack, stating the U.S. did not provide evidence of its claims.
