Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., praised the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) for publicly urging Democrats to pass a continuing resolution and end the government shutdown, telling Newsmax on Tuesday she respects the union for exposing their "theatrics."
"I very much respect them for standing up and calling out the Democratic Party for what it is," Moody said on "National Report." "It has now become the party of histrionics, political theatrics."
Moody said Democrats have allowed themselves to become beholden to the most radical elements of their base, abandoning their duty to govern in good faith.
"They are so catering and beholden to that radical part of the Democratic base that they can't even see through the fact that they have undertaken and taken an oath to serve the American people, this country, in good faith," she said.
"The good faith part of that service went out the window when they started voting no against the clean CR."
Moody commended AFGE leaders for breaking ranks and demanding that congressional Democrats act responsibly to reopen the government.
"Finally, we have somebody coming out and saying, 'Enough is enough,'" Moody said.
"Think of this country. Think of the people you swore to serve, and let's get this done."
"Enough of your partisan gamesmanship," she added. "Let's serve the United States of America."
The AFGE, one of the nation's largest public-sector unions, made waves Monday by calling on Democrats to stop the standoff and vote for a stopgap funding measure to get federal employees back to work.
