Dr. Ben Carson, an adviser in the Department of Agriculture, told Newsmax on Thursday that America is witnessing a genuine revival of faith, a movement he said could be key to restoring unity after months of political turmoil and violence.
"No question about it," Carson told "Newsline." "Our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, says our rights come from our Creator. Think about that. And the reason that we rose from nothing to the pinnacle of the world in record time is because of our belief systems.
"And if we throw those away, what will happen?"
Carson’s comments came as new data suggests a quiet resurgence in public faith. In June, Gallup reported 34% of U.S. adults said religion is increasing its influence in their lives, up from 20% in May 2024.
The renewed attention to spiritual life follows the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk in September, an event that shook the country and sparked widespread calls for moral reflection.
Carson, who was secretary of Housing and Urban Development in President Donald Trump's first term, brushed off critics, especially Democrats, who have accused Trump of authoritarianism.
"My message to people is the good Lord gave us an incredible brain," he said. "Use it."
