Rep. Ben Cline, R-Va., told Newsmax that Congress should issue a resolution in support of Israel as soon as a new speaker is elected, which he hopes will happen later Wednesday.
When asked about the current GOP candidate for House speaker, Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana, Cline said on "National Report" that Republicans "look forward to his leadership, him winning the vote today, and then in days to come, returning to the business of the people that we have not been able to do for the past several weeks."
Cline added that if Johnson is elected speaker, he hopes the first priority "would be to bring up a resolution that is supported by 95% of the entire Congress in support of Israel, our friend in the Middle East [and the] Middle East's only democracy."
He added, "We need to stand in support of Israel as they're going through this challenging time after the horrible, horrible attacks from Hamas in the past couple of weeks."
