GOP Chair to Newsmax: Conn. AG Tong Is a Prisoner to Ideology

By    |   Wednesday, 12 February 2025 06:37 PM EST

Connecticut Republican Party Chair Ben Proto told Newsmax on Wednesday Connecticut's "Attorney General [William] Tong is either sadly misinformed or a prisoner to his own ideology that rejects science, common sense, and fairness."

Last week, Tong promised to defy President Donald Trump's executive order against males competing in female sports saying, "This is meanspirited and unlawful, and deeply harmful to all Connecticut students. The U.S. Supreme Court made it clear in Bostock that discrimination against transgender individuals is illegal under federal law." Proto said that Tong is on the wrong side of the issue in Connecticut.

"This is a guy who supports mutilating young children, who supports having biological men play against women and girls in all levels of sports, regardless of the physicality of the sport. He's filed, I think, six or seven lawsuits against the Trump administration. He simply doesn't get what's going on. He's completely lost," Proto said during an appearance on "The Chris Salcedo Show."

Proto added that Tong has higher political aspirations in mind outside of his home state. "We have all kinds of issues in the state of Connecticut that he really should be dealing with, but he's not. And as a result, the people of Connecticut are suffering from his decision to try to be the, quote, unquote, attorney general for the United States than he is for the attorney general for the state of Connecticut," Proto said.
